Resistance patterns and trends of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis: 5-year experience
Objective: Extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) strains were emerged when multidrug-resistant TB (MDRTB) was inadequately treated. Inadequate treatment of MDR-TB cases may result in additional resistance especially non-XDR-TB and then XDR-TB. The aim of this study was to know the prevalence, resistance patterns and trends of the XDR-TB strains among the MDR-TB at a tertiary care hos...
متن کاملExtensively drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis is defined as disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis with resistance to at least isoniazid and rifampicin, any fluoroquinolone, and at least one of three injectable second-line drugs (amikacin, capreomycin, or kanamycin). The definition has applicable clinical value and has allowed for more uniform surveillance in varied international settings...

multidrug-resistant (mdr) and extensively drug-resistant (xdr) tuberculosis (tb) are increasing globally. treatment options for these patients are very limited. although treatment of these patients with standardized regimen is associated with high mortality and morbidity, rational usage of new drugs might be promising. in this study we will review epidemiology of xdr-tb and tdr-tb in iran and t...
متن کاملIncreasing Drug Resistance in Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, South Africa
We expanded second-line tuberculosis (TB) drug susceptibility testing for extensively drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from South Africa. Of 19 patients with extensively drug-resistant TB identified during February 2008-April 2009, 13 (68%) had isolates resistant to all 8 drugs tested. This resistance leaves no effective treatment with available drugs in South Africa.
متن کاملMultidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis (TB) can usually be treated with a course of four standard, or first-line, anti-TB drugs. If these are misused or mismanaged (that is, when drugs are taken in the wrong combination, are fewer than those prescribed, or are taken in insufficient doses or not at the proper time), multidrugresistant TB (MDR-TB) can develop. MDR-TB is a form of disease resistant to the most important an...
